Weve all been in the situation where we needed something faxed right away, but had no access to a fax machine. That frustration can be eliminated with Googles Voice Fax feature.

This application requires no fax machine or even telephone line. You can send faxes through Google Voice Fax with your webmail account in just a couple of easy steps.

The first step is to log into your web-based email account and go through the usual motions to compose a new email. In place of an email address in the recipients box, a certain pattern of code must be used remote-printer.recipient_namefax_number.iddd.tpc.int.

Replace namefax with the name of the person who is meant to receive the fax, being sure to place an underscore between the first and last name. Next replace number in the code with the fax number of the recipient, including all area codes.

(If you are sending within the United States, the number will simply start with a 1. If you are sending internationally, the number will begin with 011 followed by the country and city code and then the telephone number.

) Be sure to end the number sequence with a period followed by iddd.tpc.int. The next step is to compose your message and place a topic in the subject box.

The text you place into the message box of the email is the information you wish to fax. After all of the information you need to send is included in the message, simply send the message.

You will receive email confirmation telling you if the operation was a success or not. There are some things to keep in mind when following this process.

Google Voice Fax is a relatively new technology and is still being fine-tuned. It is important to check Googles site to make sure that service is available for your fax destination.

Also, not all users are able to capitalize on Gmails phone interface and must therefore use an actual phone line and fax machine. While the feature is still buggy, it offers great potential to the world of online transmissions.
