As the cost of traditional telecommunications has increased and the use of the internet has exploded, the traditional fax has given way to the online fax. VOIP or voice over internet protocol services have presented the consumer with much more cost efficient means to not only take care of voice calls but also their faxing needs.

The migration of faxing from traditional phone lines to the online fax did not take place until the wide availability of high speed internet services. It was this expansion of high performance internet connections that sped the move to VOIP service for both voice and data transmissions like faxing.

The most recent surveys have shown that many people and businesses are dropping their standard telephone and fax lines for the cheaper online alternatives without sacrificing the performance. Why pay more for and old land line? Cost seems to be the big issue and a major driving factor behind people seeking online fax alternatives.

Given that a traditional line can cost upwards of 100 dollars a month, one can see why people are fed up. Some online fax services are even free for users.

Many however have a nominal monthly fee which includes both the capability to send and receive faxes from just about any device from your mobile phone to your iPad. Businesses often bare the brunt of telecommunications expenses and many small companies have made the switch to online faxing services to reduce costs.

Most business faxing happens to be long distance and many of the online services often bundle unlimited long distance faxing into their monthly fee. The traditional phone companies often charge a per minute fee and this can add up over time.

The traditional fax machine will soon be a relic of the past as internet faxing services take over the market share year by year. The simple fact is that an online faxing service costs less and can match the performance of and old fax line.
